About Residencies

2010 Residencies Sessions

Residencies are for four weeks with fixed dates.
In 2010 we will be offering 3 Residency Sessions:

Session 1 (June 18 to July 16)
Session 2 (July 24 to August 21)
Session 3 (September 3 to October 1)

Fourteen to fifteen residents are chosen for each session. There is no cost other than transportation. Guests are asked to contribute to a studio maintenance fund, but such contributions are voluntary.

The Center is a turn-of-the-century Adirondack lodge in a pristine and peaceful setting of woods, lakes and mountains. Life at Blue Mountain Center is organized to maintain privacy and quiet. The atmosphere is informal. Writers are lodged in individual bedroom/studies; visual artists and composers have separate studios. Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room. Linens and laundry facilities are provided. The amenities of the Center, including a tennis court, lakes, boats and hiking trails, promise even the most diligent worker needed diversion and relaxation. The telephone is considered something of an outsider at the Center. Cell phones are not allowed on the property; there is a pay phone for guests' use. Messages will be taken in the office during the day.

Activist Residencies

Blue Mountain Center is interested in offering one-month residencies to activists and cultural workers with a writing project related to their work. Collaborations are welcome, and may be submitted as one application. The climate at BMC is especially suited for activists able to balance their need for R & R with a dedication to working on their writing project, as well as joining into a community of dedicated writers and artists. Activist applications should follow the regular application guidelines, and include more extensive information about their organization and activist background.
